" SPIRITS OF THE FIRES "

Acrylic on Canvas, unframed

6inch, 147mm 14.7cm x 20.8cm, 208mm 8in

2007
This paintings depicts the Spirits of the fires swirling and whirling amongst the flames and ambers of the fires. This painting tells the story about the bushfires that swept through the dry lands of Australia. The Spirits are protecting the People, the firefighters, the land and animals from the fire. These Spirits are good spirits. Back in creation time Baiame created all and placed certain Spirits in every thing and place. He gave Laws to these spirits and each spirit certain powers to make the aboriginal people obey his laws. The spirits were left in places where people and animals came to drink and eat. They were given the power to bring on new life, depending on how the people obeyed Baiame laws. The three circles joined by squiggly lines represent the three rivers of the "Wiradjuri Nation", The Wambool (Macquarie), Kalar (Lachlan) and Murrumbidgerie (Murrumbidgee).©
